The Long Tan Cross is a memorial which was erected by the 6th battallion Royal Australian Regiment on 18 August 1969 to mark the site of the Battle of Long Tan, which was fought three years earlier during the Vietnam war. A replica cross was also erected on the battlefield during the 1980s, and is frequently visited by Australian Vietnam War veterans.

Long Tan Battle Tour 1 Day (from HCMC)
Our guide and driver will come to meet you at your hotel in Saigon around 8:00am and depart to Long Tan Corss, located in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province approximately 110 km east of Ho Chi Minh City, marking the site of the Battle of Long Tan. This battle took place on 18 August 1966, was Australia's single most costly engagement of the Vietnam War, with the loss of 18 Australian soldiers. A cross was first erected on the site in 1969 when the 6th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, which fought in the Battle, was on its second tour of duty. The original cross was later removed by the Vietnamese. A replica now stands on the same site. On arrival, you will stop to get your travel permit to visit Long Tan Cross (Due to sensitivities regarding the memorial and because it is located on relatively isolated, non-public land so the permission should be given by the local authorities). Continue to visit Horseshoe and Long Phuoc Tunnels. After lunch, continue to visit the site of the former SAS Hill Task Force Base and Orphanage prior to returning to your hotel in Saigon and tour ends around 5:00pm.
